Hey, y’all! Hope your week has been fab so far! Ok, so this is a slightly random story, but I was watching Project Runway last night. I love the designer, Kenya! She has a lot of talent, and I loved her look last night. She should’ve won (or Ayanna), but whatever. She was working with a plus sized model, and she made a comment that I thought was somewhat profound because I can absolutely relate. Before I started this blog, one of the topics I wanted to cover was how to look effortless at any size. She said, “When you are a woman of size, you have more to prove when you get dressed. It’s easy for a size 2 to throw on a tank and some jeans and then she’s done, but if a woman who is a size 18 does the same thing, she has to be more polished.” And that is so true!! I have a coworker who is beautiful and thin. She could probably show up to work in a paper bag, and it would look chic. If I showed up like that, I would look a mess! In fact, there are many times I endeavor to look simple and effortless, and I end up looking crazy and disheveled. But in order to pull off the effortless look, I need to take a little extra effort to look polished!! Maybe I’m wearing a t-shirt and jeans, but I need to tuck part of the shirt in or tie it in a knot to give it some shape. Maybe I need to wear a pop of color lipstick and throw my hair in a bun. Maybe I need to throw on a pair of heels. All in an effort to look effortless!! It’s incredible, but it’s so true. Some of you can relate.
Anyway, I guess I should talk about this outfit!! I’m not sure I would categorize this look as effortless. Would you?? I guess it’s somewhat effortless. It’s just a top and jeans, but I think it has a little too much going on to be considered effortless. It certainly required very little effort to put together, so let’s call it effortless with an edge. But, I will do a post on tips for achieving effortless style in the future. I’ve mentioned this top before. It’s from the Olivia Palermo Collection for Banana Republic. It’s one of the pieces I really wanted when I saw her runway show in NYC. Unfortunately, it’s sold out now, but her collection still has a lot of great pieces! I’ve linked below to somewhat similarly styled shirts. Obviously this shirt is pretty unique, so I wasn’t able to find an exact match. But I loved the idea of pairing a unique blouse with an equally unique pair of pants. My first thought was to pair the top with my usual blue jeans or my black ankle pants, but I wanted to try something different. I seriously love these oregano colored destructed jeansll (which are on sale right now for under $25). They are fun, and I love how they fit. I added my fave leopard pumps and other fun neutrals, and the rest is history. Would you put together this combination? Have a great week, and thanks so much for reading!!
