Hi, Friends and Sleevenistas! It’s been an interesting couple of weeks.  Everything is going well so far with my new job.  Like with anything new, it’s an adjustment, but it’s been wonderful, and I’m grateful every day.  Over the weekend, the news of the sudden and tragic loss of Kobe Bryant, his daughter, Gigi, and the 7 other precious souls on that helicopter was devastating.  It reminds us all that life is short, so we need to live life to the fullest and hold our loved ones close.   I’d previously written the rest of this post before all of this happened.  I’m not going to rewrite the post, but I think I’m on the right track with my 2020 goals.  Here is the original post:

Today, I wanted to talk a little bit about my 2020 goals, and how they’re a little bit different from previous years. But before I get into that, let’s talk about this look!  The day I took these pics, I had literally worn this entire outfit to work.  I think it’s great for a more casual office.  This is also a great look for running errands or a movie date night or to wear to a museum, basically for anything where you want to look put together and cute (and stay warm!).

Ok, so now onto my 2020 goals.  By the way, I wrote a great post around this time last year about getting back on track with your New Year’s resolutions.  You can check it out HERE.  My goals this year are actually fairly similar to the goals I had last year.  I have overall spiritual, financial, skincare, fitness, relationship, and health goals, but this year, I wanted to shift my focus to some more tangible goals.  A few months ago, I had dinner with a recently retired colleague and what she was doing with her life changed my perspective a little bit about what I want to do with mine.  Over the last couple of years, I’ve been so focused on my finances that I haven’t really been doing much living.  Yes, that’s what Dave Ramsey says you should do until you pay off all of your debt (get gazelle intense, eat beans and rice, no vacations, no eating out, and focus on the debt until you’re done), but I’ve made a lot of progress, and it’s time for me to live a little bit!! Please note that I’m still working hard towards my financial goals.  I just plan to include a little bit of fun in my budget.  I don’t know if I shared with you guys, but my financial goals for last year included paying off a smaller student loan, then paying off my car loan, and I achieved those goals!!  My next goal is to build up my fully-funded emergency fund (6 months of expenses), but while I’m doing that, I want to have some fun!!

What my retired friend taught me through her stories of the plays she was going to, the tours she was scheduled to take, the concerts she’d been to, and the overall life she was experiencing, is that I want to invest in more experiences this year! When friends suggest a concert or a comedy show and I love the artists or heard good things about them, I’m going to try to go!  I already went to see Yvonne Orgi (comedienne, actress, and overall Naija boss babe) earlier this month, and it was so much fun!! Today, I’m going to see a musical with one of my new friends from work. Here are some of the experiences I want to invest in this year:

  • See Hamilton. I, like the rest of the world, have been hearing about this musical for years.  I skipped it when it came to Houston because of the cost, but I really want to see it this year. I have a few planned trips to New York, so I’ll either go to see it there or try to catch it in another city.
  • Become a member of the Museum of Fine Arts (MFAH) and go frequently, maybe once a month or every other month.  I really want to start going to museums more, in general.  For me, it’s a peaceful experience to walk around a museum and soak up all the art and history. I haven’t been to the Museum of Natural Science in years or checked out some of my city’s smaller museums.  But overall, I love MFAH.  It’s my favorite, so I really want to make an effort to go there more.
  • Try new restaurants!  I know I’m not the only one that ends up going to the same restaurants/bars all the time.  So, this year, as I hear of new or fun restaurants or places that my friends or colleagues recommend, I’m creating a running list on my phone.  I live in a city that has so many great options, and I’m really doing myself a disservice by not trying them all!! So, when I’m looking for somewhere to go, I’m starting with my list first!  It’ll be fun to check off those places as I experience them.
  • Go to the Veuve Cliquot Polo Classic in New York in June.  Everyone dresses up to attend a polo match with lots of champagne and good times.  I always see pics from that event, and it looks so bougie and amazing.  I must be there this year!! Lol.
  • Travel more.  I’d love to visit at least one city in the US that I’ve never been to and perhaps travel somewhere new internationally, like Belize.
  • Lagos Fashion Week.  I’ve been hearing about it for years, but I think this year, I want to make an effort to go!
  • More concerts, more museum days, more comedy shows, more plays/musicals/opera/ballet, more experiences!!

That’s the goal.  I’m excited to create new memories with friends/family and experience more fun things in life.  If you have any suggestions about things I can add to my list, please let me know!  Drop a comment below or shoot me an email.

Have a great week, and thanks so much for reading!!

  1. I just stumbled across your blog via Instagram and GIRL, I’m obsessed. The one thing I can’t seem to find is any sizing! It would be helpful to know what sizes you typically wear so that we can compare sizes to our own body types!

    1. Thank you so much, Rebekah!!! I appreciate the feedback!! I’m typically a Large or size 12. I often forget to note sizing in my posts, even when I had to size up or down. I’ll try to do better with that, but please don’t ever hesitate to leave a comment or shoot me a DM in case I forget and you have any questions about the sizing of a particular outfit!
