Happy Wednesday!! This is the second part of my holiday party style series. The first part can be found here. Today, we focus on the a-line midi skirt! I think this is a great look for a work holiday party that will stand out. Although I’m wearing a floral midi skirt that doesn’t have a lot of typical holiday colors, you could certainly go with a more festive skirt color, like red, green, silver, gold, etc. There are also so many different midi skirt styles to choose from, like pleated, straight, floral, solids and different fabrics, like leather, velvet, lace, tulle, etc. Check out the awesome variety of a-line midi skirt styles below! I want them all! Seriously, after I finish with this post, I’m going to buy a metallic midi skirt for this holiday season. It will come in handy.
If you are wondering what type of top to pair with one of these skirts, find a top that skims the body and doesn’t bunch around the waist. These days, there is a plethora of bodysuits out there. This is one trend that’s back from the 90s that I have no problem with because they really are perfect for that neat, tucked-in look that won’t budge or bunch. I’m wearing a bodysuit in the look above, and I love it. Another great option to try is, if you have a fitted/bodycon dress in the right color, just put the skirt over it and wear that as your top!! That’s a trick I love to do…you get more use out of your dresses this way. In future posts, I’ll show you how I wear dresses as tops.
If you aren’t sure what color top you will need for your skirt, here are a few things to consider: If the skirt has prints or is multi-colored, find a top in a same or similar color to a color found in the skirt, like I did above. I found a great olive bodysuit that picked up the olive tones in the skirt. If the skirt is a solid color, you can find a top that matches the color of the skirt exactly or one that is a different shade of the same color for a beautiful monochromatic look. If you are in doubt about what color to wear, just go with black!! Imagine the outfit above with a black top and black shoes. It would still look great, even though there’s no black in that skirt. It might even create a more evening look.
I hope you will use this as a guide to help you prepare for your work holiday party! Stay tuned for the final part of this series on Friday. Have a great week, and thanks so much for reading!! Make sure you shop the midi skirts below…you’re going to look so fab!
