Hi, Friends!! Sorry I’m so behind on posting, but these past couple of weeks have been CRAZY, as you may know. Going from dealing with Hurricane Harvey to preparing for New York Fashion Week (NYFW) was…an experience. There was so much stress and last minute packing, etc. But I had an amazing time in New York, and it was a dream come true to be able to attend real NYFW shows!! I took the trip with four of my blogger boos (Chigi, Chimee, Chantal, and Bianca) and our photographer friend, Sofia (who took some of my photos). We determined that the trip was all about living our best lives! You probably saw me posting on Instagram/Facebook that I’m living my best life! I’m going to try to incorporate that mantra into my everyday life. I can’t just live my best life in New York! I have been trying to figure out the best way to share my trip experience with you because there’s so much to cover…my style, street style, the trends, the shows, the parties, etc.!!! Let me know what you want to hear most about in the comments! As for now, my plan is to recap each day with relevant pics. It will be my travel diary!! So here’s the recap of Wednesday (it doesn’t count as a NYFW day) and Day 1:
Wednesday: It doesn’t count as one of the days because it’s the day that five of us traveled, and it was also a mess. We didn’t have any shows or parties scheduled for Wednesday. Our only plan was to go to a fancy dinner at Nobu, a Japanese restaurant made famous in Drake songs, and maybe go out on the town after that. But that didn’t end up happening. At some point, it felt like everything was going wrong. We left Houston and had a connecting flight in Tampa. The flight from Tampa to New York was turbulent from beginning to end! It was rough. Just bumpy the whole way. That’s never fun. Smh. Then when we arrived, we discovered the airline had put Bianca’s luggage on another, later flight. We decided to wait for her luggage to arrive before heading to the hotel. It finally arrived about 2.5 hours later, then we headed to our hotel for the night…which was a huge disappointment. It was small and gross. Fortunately, we only had to be there one night (since not everyone was coming in on the same night, we decided to find a last minute hotel for one night. The rest of the trip was booked much earlier). Since we were tired and disgusted by our hotel, we canceled our plans to get fancy and go to Nobu. So instead, after a rude Uber driver (that cursed at my friend and was overall cray cray…note, we did not get in his car and just let him cancel the ride and drive off) and several other canceled Uber rides (it was crazy…we waited for almost an hour), we headed over to Times Square and had dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. I think that was the night we determined that while we were in New York, we would live our best lives.
Day 1: I actually didn’t make it to any runway shows on Day 1. Because of Hurricane Harvey, I had some work to catch up on for my day job. The wack hotel we stayed in on Wednesday did not have wifi, so when we arrived at our new hotel, I had to take advantage of finally having wifi and sit down to do some work instead of going to the first show I was invited to, the Indonesian Diversity show. 🙁 I was so bummed. I heard it was lovely! By the time I was done with my work, it didn’t look like my peeps were going to any more shows. We checked into our new, fab hotel – the Wyndam New Yorker (a major upgrade from that disaster we stayed in the previous night). Since our new hotel was near Times Square, we walked around and did a little bit of shopping. I was hoping to go to a show, but it didn’t happen that day.
In real life, I was wearing flats to walk around…I’m not Carrie Bradshaw!!
After we walked around for a bit, we changed to go to Nobu Restaurant to celebrate Chimee’s birthday. Her birthday was actually on Wednesday, so we tried to have a birthday 2.0 celebration since Wednesday was so terrible. Nobu was nice and all, but it was too expensive for my tastes. We had a pretty good time though and we saw the famous music producer, Swizz Beatz!! After dinner, we went to a Style Fashion Week opening party, which was a lot of fun. Jessica Simpson’s dad, “Papa Joe,” was there! He was a riot. Overall, I had a good Day 1 despite not being able to see any runway shows.
