This rooftop was really nice with an amazing view. The drinks were fab! The DJ was jammin! Check out more of this view! Just me…posing for the camera in my Waldo best. They had this cool machine that put pictures on lattes! Who’s that girl?! It’s ME on a latte! So fun! Note: I did not enjoy the actual latte, perhaps because there was no sugar in it, but it was pretty cool to have my face on it nonetheless. Lol. The two in the middle, I met for the first time at the event. Such fun girls! All Houston bloggers! (except for the one holding the phone)
Hi, Friends! Sorry for the delay in my NYFW recaps!! Last week, after coming back from New York, I had a crazy busy week PLUS the Houston It Girl of Instagram event…that I WON!!! You are now looking at the newest Houston It Girl of Instagram!! Thanks so much to all of you who voted! If you want to see clips from the event, head over to my Instagram page and watch my “It Girl” highlight.
Now, on to what you’ve guys have been waiting for (maybe?)…my NYFW recap!! I wasn’t quite sure the best way to tell you guys about my trip. I initially envisioned each day of my NYFW trip as a Sleeves and the City episode, but my first 2 days were jam-packed with activities and then my last two days were…not (more on that later 😐 ). And I must admit, I was TERRIBLE with getting pictures of everything, so sometimes pics in my posts will be borrowed, but I’ll make sure to give the proper credit. Anyway, I’ve decided to just have all minisodes! There will be minisodes about events or parts of my day or just outfits! So, here we go…the first minisode…where’s Waldo…I mean, Nneka?
This minisode is appropriately titled because this top reminded me of Waldo immediately when I saw it, and where’s Nneka? Well, finally in NYC after a frustrating journey. I was supposed to arrive in NYC on Thursday night, but my flight was canceled. Those of you who follow me on Instagram saw all the drama. I ended up having to fly to Dallas on Thursday night, stay overnight, then get on the first flight to NYC in the morning. I didn’t arrive until late Friday morning. If you recall in my last post, I said I was really excited about going to the Indonesian Diversity Runway show because I missed it last year. Welp, I missed it again!! I was so upset! When I eventually arrived at the hotel, it was probably around noon and the Rewardstyle event was from 10-3, so I decided to get ready and head straight to the Rewardstyle event (pics above).
The Rewardstyle event was really nice. It was at the Monarch Rooftop Bar & Lounge. When I first got there, I felt a little out of sorts because I was by myself and I didn’t know anybody (nor did I see anyone that looked like me). So, I went to my only friend in the room, the bar. I grabbed a glass of the Aperol spritz, whatever that is, and started walking around. I’m usually pretty outgoing and known for walking up to strangers and starting a conversation, but I didn’t yet feel comfortable there. I eventually saw a Houston blogger friend, then after that, I felt more at ease and started meeting some new people. More Houston bloggers that I knew showed up (pictured above) later, and I ended up having some fun. One thing I will say is that I’m happy I occupy this blogging space because I think there needs to be more people in it that look like me. There were so many girls that all looked similar (in size, style, etc). There were some that looked like me, but not many at all. But anyway, that’s a conversation for another day.
After the event, I went back to the hotel to get ready for my first runway show of the trip where I ended up meeting some famous stylists and the one and only Whoopi Goldberg!!! More on that in my next post. Stay tuned! Have a great week, and thanks so much for reading!
