Chigi’s outfit – For her outfit details, head over to her blog HERE!
Happy FriYay!! And it’s GOOD FRIDAY at that, which is definitely a reason to say YAY!! So, today I have something special for you…a collaboration with blogger, Chigisworld! Chigozie or “Chigi” is a renaissance woman. She has a fashion blog (Chigisworld), a fashion line (Chic Creations and Collections), an organization that empowers women entrepreneurs (Bosses in Heels), and she still has a day job as a nurse practitioner!! I don’t know how she has time to do it all! Make sure to check out her blog for her take on how to style Ankara/African prints for spring. We had a blast shooting this for you. Since Chigi is a designer of African print fashions, these looks are right up her alley. The bag I’m carrying is from her line (here). In the fall of last year, I sat on the front row at Africa Fashion Week Houston. Chic Creations and Collections was my favorite of the brands that walked the runway! Maybe it’s because a lot of the looks had sleeves, but I truly loved her line! 🙂
Chigi and I have similar styles. We both love incorporating African prints into our everyday wardrobes. Today, we are working our African prints into our spring wardrobes! Remember my Spring Wishlist?? Of course you do because I keep talking about it! Again, I am wearing a couple of items from it…the white jeans, the block heels, the fun sunglasses, the pop of color bag. You may recall that at the time I posted my spring wishlist, I didn’t own any white jeans. It’s always something I wanted to own, but I hadn’t been able to find a flattering pair. I already know that I can’t get away with skinny white jeans because it would be unflattering. The style I’m wearing is boyfriend straight, which is more flattering for my leg shape!! That is a hack for those of you with thicker thighs and calves…go for the straight leg jeans! Also, I’m not gonna lie…I’m wearing shapewear under it. I still haven’t figured out how else to wear white jeans without dreaded cellulite showing. Sizing up wasn’t really an option because the jeans would no longer have the right shape. Anyhoo, Chigi is wearing Ankara shorts and a blazer. I actually need to go see my tailor and get myself some shorts made! What a great idea! I love that it’s a set and that she paired it with a t-shirt and heels. So chic!
There are so many different ways to wear Ankara prints in spring…bright colors, shorts, short sleeved blazers, rompers, dresses, clutches, tops, accessories, etc. Look out for me wearing more Ankara/African prints on the blog, y’all. In addition to having things made by my tailor, there are so many places to buy super cute Ankara clothes now. With online marketplaces like Zuvaa and Tribalot that carry the lines of designers like Chigi and the many vendors on Etsy, you don’t even need a tailor to get great Ankara/African print pieces! In fact, tomorrow I plan to buy myself an Ankara swimsuit WITH SLEEVES!! I know right? Stay tuned for that! I’m so excited!!! I hope you’ve enjoyed this collabo!! We have another post coming up next week with more looks/tips!! Thank you so much for reading!!
